Do I need hiking boots for Fort Rodney?

Heavy hiking boots are not necessary, but sturdy sneakers are essential. Do not attempt this hike in flip-flops.

The Saint Lucia National Trust highly recommends proper walking shoes. The trail involves loose dirt and rocky patches. The right footwear prevents slipping and protects your feet on uneven ground.

What is the hardest part of the trail?

The final stretch near the top of Fort Rodney is the most difficult section. It requires climbing a steep set of uneven stone steps.

After the stone steps, you must climb a short metal ladder to reach the final viewing platform. You will need both hands free for balance and safety on this section. Leave heavy bags at your hotel or wear a light daypack.
